Artist's Comments

It was blistering early in the morning during a pre-convoy communications radio check.

I usually only put B&W photos into the gallery, but I just love the colors in this. I used a Canon XL1s direct light and crammed it into the top of the HMMWV to get the lighting.

03OCT05 took some advice from =tyhopho and cropped the black space from the right side of the photo.

The lighting in that shot is AMAZING! I wish I had such lighting skills. Great job!

Honestly, I just kinda lucked up here. I knew how I wanted the shot to look, but couldn't use my flash in the situation... So I just had to use what I had, but it worked out.

i think an excellent choice to use colour - black and white works in many situations but for this colour helps that sense of realism which is needed for this shot.
:icontyhopho:
further suggestion - try a crop from the right hand side of some of that dark space?

I see what you're saying, but wouldn't that make the photo squarish? Personnaly, I don't think it works as well as with the squared off look, but I could be wrong. What do you think?

i think in terms of balancing the elements in the photo it might work a little better, as the negative space on the right doesnt serve much purpose.

the 1:1 format is a very popular and useful format for presenting images - medium format can shoot as 1:1 and many famous shots were done as 1:1

didi you see this news article on DA? [link]

I read through the article and I think you're right. After cropping the picture won't be exactly 1:1 but I believe it improves the overall look. I'll resubmit the photo and you can take a look.

look forward to it

*Nods* I agree with tyhopho on this one, the extra space doesn't do much for the image.

However, excellent capture of a working shot. Sometimes its the people we don't see that make all the difference in the world.
